Laparoscopic surgery is a surgical procedure where tiny incisions are made to operate the targeted area. The process involves the usage of a tool known as the laparoscope which consists of a tiny video camera with a small light at its end. It is by far the safest and most effective surgical procedure performed by surgeons these days. Unlike traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery involves small incisions so it is also known as "minimally invasive" surgery. Most of the abdominal surgeries like gall bladder surgery, bariatric surgery, pancreatic surgery, hernia repair and many more are conducted through laparoscopic procedures.
In Laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon makes a few small incisions on the targeted area. Each incision is about a centimeter or less in width. This is why Laparoscopic surgery is also known as keyhole surgery. Now through one of the openings, a tube is inserted which consists of a small camera and light at its end. The camera attached projects a video of the area that needs to be operated and the surgeon looks at the monitor and operates accordingly.
Laparoscopic surgery has several benefits compared to open surgeries.
